finnished work today said good bye to my mates got in my car typed the code in the pad turned the key and it just wirred and wirred no start tried putting it in first to ease it to start still noting had to do third to get it to start!! ive changed most things sparks leads coil pack and added injector and engine cleaner in the petrol any ideas????

still having problems the car seems to start then stall straight away any ideas??? really desperate now

sometime when mine starts but i can tell its going to stall i just give it some revs and then its fine!

sorry i don't have a clue about engines! would the coil pack be to do with this? best bet is to take it to a garage and get the computers to run a scan on it

could stall straight away due to sensors as well not picking up correctly and causing the engine to do the wrong things

i changed the coil pack so its not that it must be fuel orientated coz even when i do like g_moore_123 said and put the accelerator on a bit it does nothing just stalls!

mine sometimes did that when my starter motor was failing, then in the end it wouldnt even have power to try and start, the key just turned out - thats when my hammer came out onto it lol

i didnt think early models with the keypad immobiliser had coil packs. mine seems the same age as yours and it has ht leads i think instead.

no mate yours has a coil pack same as mine i have ht leads to the coil pack is the block they plug into on the right of the rocker cover youre thinking of the ignition pack basically the same thing but this fits directly onto the spark plugs

i have no idea but ill defiently go with that gd luck with the car mate have u checked the haynes manual for possibilitys?

yeah it looks like its either the fuel system somewhere! or immobiliser fault i dont think its the later as i have an up graded toad cat 1 so ill have to take her to a garage for a check get the fuel system flushed through and if its not that get a new starter motor!! not to hard to fit tho i dont think. the thing with haynes tho is they assume you know where the parts there talking about are a good addition would be what parts where!

sounds like the starter motor my car done that a few times wouldnt start in 1st but would in any other gear,then jus got the wirrin noise,changed the starter and now its fine!!!

Why are you trying to start your car IN gear?

Im assuming you have your clutch depressed whilst doing this, else your asking the starter motor to do a lot of work.

If you can hear the whirring sound of the engine trying to start, this IS the starter motor, so would sugges that is not your problem.

If a car starts and stalls straight away its most likely a sensor.

Stepper motor or MAP sensor would be my favourites in this case.

MAP sensor: -

Check the map sensor is bolted correctly to the inlet manifold. Any leaks will messup the MAP reading, causing thecar to stall. Also check no vacuum pipes have split or become detached.

Stepper motor: -

Turn your ignition on to the 2nd click, but do not engage the starter motor. (this steps the stepper motor out fully)

Press your accelerator fully and hold for 10 seconds. (to calibrate full swing on TPS)

Turn ignition off (this fully closes the stepper motor). Keep ignition off for 10 seconds.

Press your accelerator fully and hold for 10 seconds.

Repeat this using delay times of 20 seconds.

This should ensure things will run as smoothly as possible regardig the TPS and stepper motor... unless one of them is knackered.

Failing this, I would start to think about dodgy air temperature sensor, or fuelling problems (blocked filter?)

i only put it in to third to turn the engine over coz i was on my own and couldnt push and do the other stuff at the same time ill try what you suggested how long for tho? the car was serviced only 2000 miles ago! so no idea why all the problems i used the injector stuff in the petrol so should be clean all through but i can only think its something fuel related ill check sensors and air filter tomorrow to really wanna get it sorted and have the car running to its full potential
