Car turning over not starting
Hi,
This is for a 206 1.4 petrolmbut any help much appreciated. I changed the brakes on the girlfirends 206 yesterday and took it for a test drive to check they were working. I noticed the fuel level was practically empty but was only taking it up and down the road so did it. The car started fine and the brakes were fine however when I came to start it later it wouldnt work. The car is turning over just not firing. I have put petrol in, checked the emergency cut off, tried to bump start it and its just not starting. Any ideas? Im thinking air must have got in the fuel system?
Cheers,
Matt

shouldnt have. Might be worth taking the fuel line off - then try and start the car and you should see fuel spurt out the line - don't let a lot of fuel come out !! Just enough to know that it's flowing. Then try again ?

No as the fuel pump pushs - not sucks, so it won;t suck up air, it'll just push out fuel.

If fuel comes out the pump must be working.

How would you sort a blockage in the fuel filter? Also wheres it best to disconnect the fuel line?

it's probably easiest at the engine, but have a rag to soak up the fuel. Just a thought, when you turn the key to second stage, the fuel pump will prime the fuel system, so fuel should come out then - no need to start it.

The missus got the RAC out today and their diagnosis was electrical. They reckon there is no spark and the coil isnt engaging or something was what I got back from her. They have reccomended taking it to a dealer as his software couldnmt communicate with the car. He reckons a crank sensor or something.
I will check in a minute whether there is a spark for my own piece of mind. The fuel pump is definitley working he reckoned fuel was getting through however I havent verified that - he told us he worked better without an audience. Will do the thing b tomorrow with the fuel line.
So....is it one of those unlucky coincidences or is his diagnosis wrong? Is there anything by the breaks I could have inadvertenly messed up?
Cheers

IMO - I'd try and see if it's getting fuel - checking this is free. If it spurts out then might be worth taking it in for a diagnosis.
