no you could run them off y0our headunit ,
but would sound alot better amped

what size comps should i be looking at to replace the front speakers for a straight fit ?

these are two very good set ups, and are highly rated within a budget of under £300, i could give out a few links to higher quality, higher priced products, but its rare that theres a thread with big budget wanted

the JBL comps are amongst if not the best comps you can get for under £60, i rate them very highly, as do coonper, pred, csvtr, reevsey, webby and many others. they wont be around for long, so snap them up while you can

as for the SPL's, yes that amp is over powering them a lot, but if set up correctly itll be fine, those comps have an amazing midbass for the price, the high's arent too harsh and the speakers thrive off more than 100wrms!
