I mainly use parralel and clockwise motion.

polish - ye that polish is fine and applying that will will be fine, you might want to get some AG extra gloss protection aswell to apply after
wax - if your desperate for wax now the get down halfords and buy some of the Megs wax the 3rd step in there 3 step range i use that works really well, but if you can wait for delivery look into getting some dod juice from cleanyourcar.com

thats ok mate
just apply the wax the same as you do with polish really but use a decent applicator or your fingers to apply it

I just use a good coat of Turtle Nano Tech Wax (Green Tub) Its REALLY good and considering i've not washed the car for over 2 weeks and not waxed it in a month, its so shiney and still beads.
I just appply it with a old CLEAN COTTON top, like a polo top or soemthing. I let it dry to a haze (like T-Cut) then i buff lightly in a circleuar motion with another buffing rag.

Color of car can affect what wax you use
if dark color then you wont go far wrong with poorboys natty blue carnuba wax
bilt hamber wax gets good results aswell
cellulose applicators by meguirs are good.
Apply and buff in straight lines.this helps avoid circular swirl marks.
Terry towling clothes work better for me at buffing off.
