Assuming you are plugging your router into a phone line or cable where you have an internet connection with someone? Who is that someone and have you rung their helpline telling them youve changed the router and need to set it up again?

Possibly need a set up disc depending which ISP you are with.

I'm already running that version, have been for quite a while now. Its very handy indeed. Means I can keep a better eye on daily and monthly upload and d/l levels. My modem then keeps a running total since its last reboot.
The firmware i'm on is v24-sp1 (released july 08) build 10012

ah my bandwidth is quite low this month
May 2009 (Incoming: 21260 MB / Outgoing: 26923 MB)

Theres a guide on the DD-WRT forums on how to attach a flash drive to the router...
iirc the current firmware only recognises upto 8GB in storage...

Same here really, not much at all to download thats "new and exciting"..

Hmm flash drives huh ... wouldn't be a bad idea surely could fit another controller to allow more storage though? 8GB is nothing now-a-days.

Have you seen that feature to run your own hotpoint? Quite tempted to buy another and plonk it in the loft with a antenna on the chimney, just for shits n giggles.

it uses the onboard controller on the mainboard - theres also a way to add a serial port the the router as well....

Yeah i've seen the hotpoint feature. My mate uses it at uni - its very shiny indeed.

If you start to look down the multiple access points route then be wary that some devices (namely 360's and ps3's) have issues when the see the same SSID twice. (ie more than once access point)

Its easily solved however by setting all the ip config manually.

Also i've found that ubuntu has issues in connecting to the network unless it sees the main router first. after its connected it works across the network with no issues :s

Ah right I see, those features would be ace.

I did run the multiple AP's at one point, had the one main, rest where hidden SSID's, so the signal was picked up and running as if the "main" router was available in most aspects of the house.

Only things I use on wireless are the Laptop / Netbook and maybe the mobile now and again really.

Consoles / Servers are all hard-wired cause' I'm picky. Ha.

Wouldn't mind seeing what a N+ router would be like though, i.e. the range.

only bonus i've seen off of n+ is the speed. although a lot of stuff is still on g.

Servers are all patched here as well. WTF would you think of putting a server on wireless!?!? lol

Haha true story, if I can hard-wire I will.
Wireless is nice, but in here I like to keep it all WPA2's and Mac allocated, security whore :/

Seriously considering creating a hotpoint though, might eBay one of those high-gain antennas just for a laugh, see how far over town I could get.

Theres a OS named BigPond, apparently has upto 8 dual wan capability, I may have to try this ... that would be in theory a 160mb internet connection (or when 50mb is available round here = 400mb) ... however there would be packet loss / noise ratio to take into account on cable, I'm sure it could be tweaked if the power SNR would hold out!
