Saw an ad on telly last night for one of these and it has made me decide I want in this elite club of photo geeks.
At around £500 is this any good or are there other much better cameras for the price?
Cheers

mabe not better, but id not ever buy away from canon or nikon
pure and simple reason is lenses, and secondhand prices.
there are jsut so many used lenses for C & N, the chances of finding a bargain are great, as i know too well.
if i had £500 to spend id be looking at a 20/30d and a tamorn 17-50 2.8

if it was me personally i would stick to nikon or canon just because they have far greater accessories and lenses available. should be able to pick up a canon 30d with battery grip and lens(es) for that price mate

No point in going with alot of the brands other than canon/nikon unless you track down one which has a nice range of glass available.
Look at viper he struggled to get cheap good glass with the samsung, sony also are expensive for glass to etc...
Theres a reason 90% of people use canon/noink.
Also i got viper a 20D for under £200 this week, so theres more cheap second hand bodies on the market. If going canon id personally buy a decent second hand body than a new fisherprice one (450/500D)
Remeber aswell, £500 say wont get you alot of gear in the big picture. Its not like a point and shoot where you say buy a £300 one and its pukka and thats all you need. You then look at glass, for example a few of us have a few thousand invested in glass alone ontop of the body.

just follow me craig into the 2nd hand canon market
as ryan said, its best not to go for a brand other than canon and nikon as you will struggle to find quality lenses at good prices. and you are a lot less likely to get second hand ones!
the samsung does have its advantages, but the disadvantages outweigh these
