hesitation/misfire under partial load
Recently bought a 1997 vts, when driving it down to get it mot'd today, noticed at part throttle it would feel as if there was a slight misfire but as soon as the foot went down, it seemed to be ok.
relatively new to the vts engine, have been a rover man for a few years(stop laughing now plese!!) lol.
any ideas/suggestions?
its getting a good service when I get it back, feel it needs it maybe.

Sounds a bit like the coil pack tbh. If you have a mate with a vts, borrow their coil pack and try it on yours for a start. Could also be worn spark plugs if they havn't been changed for a while

If the leads look old and worn change plugs and leads first to eliminate the most basic and cheap option.

Try ebay for a 2nd hand one. Sometimes there are new ones on there as well. Motor factors will usually be able to get hold of them as well for you. Citroen as a last resort (as they will cost a fortune from there)
Cant remember how much they are - not bought one for ages. Have a feeling I've paid between £50 and £75 in the past for new ones

No leads on a vts. they run a coil pack instead

bit of an update on this...
the car is now cutting out on idle most of the time, and suffers from a random loss of power till it cuts out.
would a hole in the cat cause this? lambda picking up more oxygen than normal and fecking with the fuelling?
gave my ICV a wee clean today(new one on order from egay!), seems to have helped a bit, but still does it.
New plugs are also in.
all thats left could be the coil packs themselves.
time shall tell!
p.s. there is a niggle in the back of my head telling me to check the map line. would it cause these sorts of probs?
cheers in advance chaps

if its at a fixed throttle range its possibly the TPS (throttle position sensor) throwing its toys out the pram.
Failing that, map sensor or coil pack
