VAG 1.8T conversion thread
Seems to be a few people asking about different engine conversions but this is the only one i would have ago at my self rather than spending loads of a TU lump. They have MASSIVE potential and seem to be very strong. Also a 6 speed box available, not to mention a 4x4 drive train if your handy with a angle grinder and welder
Im sure it was the tweequed lad that mock fitted one in a ax and took a pic. Has anyone got it?
Anyone mock fitted one into a saxo/106 bay?
Pics and any info you care to share please

anything is possible, and to be fair, the 20vT is a fantastic and very capable engine.
a friend of mine is currently putting a 20vt in his renault 5, the engine is in, currently just sorting out transmission.
I can see if i can get pics of that if it is of any use to you?

you`ll be meaning this??
not sure how much room you`d have between the steering rack and turbo/manifold but ANYTHING can be made to fit with enough work... the diff also sits quite low compared to the MA box from what i gather too...

Think there is already an R5 rocking the 1.8T 20V unit. So can be done. Is the R5 bay much bigger than a saxo?
Id quite like to see this done.
Are they heavy units in comparison to the TU lump?

Difficult fit that one. The gearbox for it is massive and it will take extensive body reworking. If you with to go 4x4 I would recommend having a look at some of the early Subaru, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Nissan setups. If you are after FWD and easy fit for then something like the XU, EW or K series could work well. If you are going to fit a WV engine why not just get the V6 and stick it in the back?

Thats the one.
Could allways get a custom bell housing and mate it to a BE box instead of using the vag ones? Would have liked to kept the 6 speeder though

Was an orange 1.2, had a 2.0 clio engine put in with nitrous then a 1.8 turbo lump in. 400+bhp and a ph2 front end put on.

i've never sat my saxo next to his 5 so don't really know about engine bay space, i'll ask him about weight.
as i said a moment ago, i'll be round his place tomorrow so i'll take a photo.

I remeber the thread on CS of when you bought it when it was in a bit of a sorry state from not being used for a while. Great piece of automotive engineering when it was first done, and looks much nicer with the ph2 front end than the old ph1 lol!

I'm suprised no ones thought about the 207 Gti engine in the saxo, thats a small light engine with good potential!
