Default 16v engine differences?

I need a new engine for my VTS but i'm unfamilar with models etc. Basically what i need to know is, can i by any 16v engine for either a VTS/GTi and will it be the same? For example if i buy an engine from a 02 saxo, will it be the same as the one i already have in my car which is a 99 model?

All i need is a head + block then i'm going to re-build that, then take the orignal engine out, swap the inlet, alt, gearbox etc then bolt the fleshly built one in.

If anyone could point me in the direction of a saxo breakers, preferably nearer essex (unless they post) that would be great.

Cheers, Simon.

you can use any 16v engine from any year and swap your inlets etc over. You would need to swap a few sensors over so they worked with your loom. You could just take the sensors from your current engine and fit on the new one
