best digital camera to produce files sizes of 2-3mbs?
Hi guys im trying to find a camera thast good for doing photographs where the file size is around 2-3 megabytes.
my digital camera only seems to push them out as 1.86mbs per file.

string - length...
my slr produces over 6mb jpegs and 7-8mb raws.
every slr should do this easily, plus i would suspect hugely megapixeled point and shoots.

whats your price range, what do you need it for?
as theyre the most important things, theres no point buying an SLR if its for club pics when out with the mates.
I suspect a finepix bridge camera will do, ill check the file sizes i generally got when i nicked my rents to go on hol with.
SLR wise, canon and nikon dont bother with anything else if you want second hand lenses.
Decent point and shoots, canon ixus rand, casio exilm and pansaonic lumix
bridge cameras/larger auto stuff, fujitsu finepix stuff or canon g10/g11

yeah as ryan says stay away from point and shoots that offer really high mega pixels, often these are only effective mega pixels meaning the quality is no where near as good as you would think. also dont forget that the picture will only ever be as good as the glass in front of the camera. my 10d only makes like 2mb jpg files and 6 - 7mb raw files but combined with L series glass you could still get good shots. Obviously technology has moved on massively since then, just bare in mind that if you do get an slr dont throw all your money at the body

Get someone with a camera.....
Right the finepix blobmobile i took away on holidat was producing 2-2.5mb files.
Most cameras for sale should tell you what the average file size is.

it was an example you pleb
lol at thinking a mobile phone pic would be ok to use in a magazine, have you been smoking some good crack tonight?
best thing is get an SD card take it into dixons or jessops and try out a few you like, see if they give you the magic 3mb you require
Megapixels doesnt allways mean higher res files, theres alot more to it than that but i wont explain as its techno bable.

i want expecting to be asked for a mag feature ryan lol. I just used my mobile to take pics that I thought was good enought for on the web i.e progress threads. but been in a proffesional magazine is a whole new ball game to me lol.
the only thing I can think of is sweet talking my local news paper and see if they will loan me one of there camera's till this project is over and done with!

local papers generally use freelancers = they own their own gear
+ most of them shoot an SLR, you then need to learn how to use it.

would this idea work at all.
use the smaller filed pics as mini pics in the feature and at the end get one of the photographers from the news paper to shoot how the car finally looks in high res big photos?
as im sure they wont be using alot of photos anyway?
they have given me a limit of 800-1200 letters for the written article.
now would that be a two page spread or a single page?

The final car images they will probably send out one of their own freelancers, a local paper photographer will in most cases not have shot many cars and so not know what the mag wants.
If they say they need hires then they need it. Even small pics need to be hires because the printing looses image quality init.
I can ask my mate who writes for retro ford how many pages that is approx with them

ah I see.
my local news paper has a good photographer who used to only take photo's of cars. so that might work Hmm! but like you said depends on how they want the car to look in there magazine.
think its best I just take it a step at a time. send them all the photo's I have at present. and just chill out some more hahaha.

magazines have a style they want to use. Ive done a couple of things for a mag recently + more in the pipeline, they want certain things doing/done, lit in a certain way etc.. to fit in with the style of the mag etc..
can be a pain in the arse but something to consider, afterall they will be editing and doing the artwork for the mag.

when resizing images you can select the sizes you want. If you view image properties it should show the resolution
