Default Flower lens hoods

I got myself a shitty little flower lens hood for like £4.99 on eBay... I was just wondering does it have to be straight for it to work properly. As when the lens focuses the lens hood turns with it. If that makes any sense whatsoever.

I needs to be straight dude - i.e. level with the 'rectangle' of the photo.

The reason it's petalled is because you've got a broad width and a narrower height - as a result the petals at the edge to the left and the right need to be shorter than the ones in the vertical orientation - else they'll be seen (or at a minimum darken) at the edges of the pics.

Thanks Mr Sayer. So I'm guessing you have to line the shot up, focus it, then adjust the lens hood to suit?

anytime dude. Yeah exactly that... so I suggest that if it's overcast or basically there's no bright sources of light outside of the shot you're wanting to take you don't use the hood - as it won't make a difference in those sort of circumstances
