Replacing the Indicator stalk

Hi all,

I'm new here so appologies if this has been covered before or if it is in the wrong place.

I want to replace the indicator stalk because it flickers (and don't say it's supposed to... lol) verfy fast when indicating right. I have a replacement but when I tried to fit it found that it couldn't be removed from the holder because there is not enough clearance to allow it to come out because it's hitting the dash.

Is there a way of doing it without removing the steering wheel?

its not hard to remove the airbag and steering wheel. you will then have to remove the airbag connector rring which is only 3 bolts, then the whole unit holding both indicators comes off with another 3 bolts, easy

Ok I've got this far, I have removed the three screws and the air bag connector ring is lose but it wont come off! I struggled for about an hour but no joy! The cable at the back of it wont go through the hole in the plastic housing for the indicator and wiper stalks.

I have tried to remove the connector but it is either just very tght or there is some kind of locking clip on it or it doesn't come off. So is there something I am mising to remove the air bag connector ring or is there a special technique required? I thought this would be the easy bit!

I have seen pictures on this site with the conector ring out and hanging on the cable, so why can't I get this one out.

I have even tried to undo the orange cable at the other end to give more slack but I can't undo the connector...WHY?

I've just done an indicator stalk on a saxo east coast 1.1. You don't need to take the steering wheel off and worry about the air bag. Just take the two 20T torx out from under the cowling and take the top and bottom plastic cowling off. Then undo the three bolts that hold the steering column up. You can drop the column enough to get the stalk out then. Undo the two 10T torx on the front of the stalk and it will just make it out with the column dropped a bit. Change the plugs over in the back of the stalk to the new one and slide it in. Put the 10T screws back. Put the 3 bolts holding the steering column back. Put the cowling back together and do the two 20T screws up that hold the cowling together.
A word of warning. Be very careful around the ignition switch. I managed to damage the transponder (the bit that recognises the key and turns the fuel pump off if it's wrong) when I was putting the cowling back. Being a clever dick I repaired it but best not to go there in the first place.
Basically dropping the column a bit means you don't have to worry about drivers air bag or losing the radio code by disconnecting the battery. None of this should be neccessary.

the guide to removing the steering wheel will get u there. had same problem with the one i replaced it with god knows why they go like that

The plastic bits that surround the steering wheel cowling coema part and should come off without having to remove the steering wheel. I've done it many a time

You're saying that your indicator flashes very fast when indicating right but not left? You have checked that you don't just have a bulb out yeah? If you've got a blown bulb on your offside then it'll cause the other two to flash quicker.... Just a thought likes

+1 on the bulb being blown, thats the 1st thing i would have checked if it happened to mine
