if its a 3 plug ecu and loom and its in a car that was originally 3 plug, then all the wires match up fine.
i cant tell you what it is thats causing problems, but i can tell you it isnt the multiplug.

strange you say that! i bet you have fitted it with a 3 plug vtr loom, i did this to mine and i had no speed, revs temp...... the only gauge that worked was fuel also it was fine when you drove it normal and when u booted it it would jolt and hold back, is this how yours is? we had to test all the wires on the multi plug and cut some and join to get the gauges to work. As for the near cut out and hold back mine was due to it being a 3 plug vtr ecu iv now got my old 1.4 plugged in and its fine just jolt a little when i boot it but i have obviously got to change it.

I honestly have no idea what wires they were, my gf's dad did the conversion and i walked in the garage and heard alot of swearing (fucking multi plug wires are different!) wires everywhere so i thought no chance but somehow he wired them, i think he touched and earth on each wire and had his mate in the car to see what gauge worked. You could give your vtr ecu a try just make sure you dont lock the one you have got on atm, you wont need the black box plugged in to run your old ecu i didnt. Sorry i cant help anymore. I will try and get a good pic of my multi plug in abit if i can find batterys for the camera. If you have used a 3 plug vtr engine loom you might hopefully be able to see the colours of the wires going into my multi plug in what places and do yours the same. Do you have a battery light? Mine was stuck on but it was charging, he said he was going to put a new wire from the alternator to the multi plug to the interior loom but somehow he found the one in the vtr loom and cut the wire out of the block connector engine side of the loom and interior loom then joined them because they didnt connect when the plugs were put together (in complete different places). Her dad is a hero i thought mine would be fucked and engineless but he had the engine in and all the wiring done in 3 days!! the wiring was the worst but it is a custom loom to my car now.

To be fair the mk2 vtr loom is vertually the same just a fe plugs different. Iv got a mk1 16v engine, nearly all the sensors are mk2 16v and fit the vtr loom i even have the 2 lamdba plugs. the alternator plug was cut off my 1.4 loom and wired onto the mk2 vtr loom because i had to use the 1.4 alternator on it but the other plug is still attached aswell so i have the choice of either alternator if it packs up. Obviously i dont have an oil pressure gauge because the vtr dont have that but its not an issue due to the dials not having it.

Do you have the management light on? I ran mine on a 3 plug vtr ecu fine before it locked, the only thing was it would only rev till 6250 not 7250 like the vts one. get a multi metor on the big black plug, put the earth wire on an earth and poke it in all the wires on the engine side of the loom then poke it onto the wire the other side to see if its going through the plug. For example you have got a red wire top left in the multi plug and its live coming from the engine side then you try it on the interior side of the plug and ifs its dead theres your problem. That was an example. Thats how mine was done. The wire s going into one side of the plug will be different colour coming out of the other side of some but it dont mean a thing. Take your time and you will do it i have faith in you dude be positive and use your brain to the full. Im not a bright spark but iv chased wires and things before and worked it out, I did my fuel gauge the other day.

You would think a 3 plug 16v loom would plug straight into a 3 plug vtr interior loom and work but i think citroen made them randomly, Iv heard of people getting a 03 16v engine and loom and fitting it to a 03 vtr both being 3 plug but they had to change wires in the loom............ Your just pot lucky if yours so fit and work because theres always something that dont work in the interior.
