Definatley somthing canon. Find a second had 400d if you can. For that price you'll be able to get a gripped 400d with maybe a lens or 2. Was my first camera and couldnt fault it! Got it as a back up body now. Very easy to use when you get your head around the basics. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Canon-400D-box...item1e5ca4843c Then i'd recommend getting a nifty fifty (Canon 50mm f.18).

Job done

I would go Sony or Nikon. Sony because there incredible value at the moment. You can even get a new one for the price your looking at or great spec used one. Nikon because they have used the same lens mount from the year dot. So if you grab something like a old D70 you can use any Nikon fit lens ever made.

sony - lacking on 3rd party lenses, and a very small second hand market.

Not a good system to buy into, even with the zeiss glass new.
