Default Petrol starting to sound like a diesel :S

Hey guys.

In the 2 years I've had the car, its never sounded sweet but has run fine.

However, it is beginning to sound like a diesel in general. The car still runs and drives exactly the same as normal, but there is a loud distinct sound coming from the engine bay that increases and decreases with the throttle.

I had my Tappets checked and adjusted, and it actually sounded worse after having them done, though I trust the garage where the work was carried out.

Could it simply be the tappets are very worn (engine has done 67k, 24k in my posession) or something more serious that people may have experienced before?

thanks if anyone can help. If it is the tappets im assuming the fix is to replace them? Though I know it won't be worth the money to fix if it is, its just the noise is loud and annoying

hmmm i would of thought it was the exhaust get under the car and check its condition, it still drives fine so i don't think it is the engine, in my experience anyway.

Low oil pressure can make any car sound rough like a diesel, sure its not leaking oil?Next time you do an oil change use an engine flush.
