Default daft strut/ball-joint issue

took my struts off the ball joint and on again a million times

as i was fitting my new shafts today for some reason i couldn't get the ball joint to go into the female on the bottom of the strut

i tried sticking a circle file in and grinding it and levering open the hole where with a chisel but couldn't get it in for anything

any ideas?
