now iv done a search on the site about vts conversions(from vtr to vts) and i can only find topics that tell you the main things you need i.e. engine, gearbox, ecu, key and wiring loom but what other bits do you have to change? like what parts of the exhaust system? obviously the manifold but how far back would you need to change and also things like are the engine mounts in the same place. just little nitty gritty bits really? and also are there any extra parts you need if its a 106 GTI engine rather than a vts?
Please be a help people. iv done all the searches i can take!
also i got an insurance quote for when its done. il be 20 with 0 no claims. 3 yrs experiance. and they quoted me £1820. is this any good?

if you have mk1 saxo and you get a mk1 saxo single plug ecu and loom its a straight swap (Assuming you have the key etc) if you use the 106gti stuff on a saxo you need to cut and chop wires as the harness is differnet, if its 3 plug to 3 plug it should be ok if its 3-1 etc its complete rewire.

i no i might sound thick but when people talk about the "key" what is it refering to? what is the key? and what does it do?
also s4xovts you said it was a straight swap. did all the exhaust (manifold to backbox) link up and fit straight on to the vts engine? also is the whole thing a hard job?

they key is exactly as it says, the key that goes in the ign barrel, on mk1s with transponder ie it has a round plastic transponder around the ign barrel under the cowling that picks up the signal chip in the key, sends it to the black immob box, which then sends an unlock signal to the ecu assuming all values match, without it you dont have an unlocked ECU, unless you get one.
if you dont have a VTS aftermarket manifold you will need std vts manifold and downpipe which will mate to your existing exhaust. Its not hard just fidly and time consuming.

i think ratty is referring to the transponder key. i woz luky when i got the vts engine that the ecu woz already unlocked. and as for the exhaust i got the manifold and downpipe with the engine but yeh it bolts together nicely.
no i dont think the job is hard if you have the rite tools for it. hope this helps mate

i dont understand.
So your saying i need the key from the donor car and when i put it into the engnition it will work and start the engine? sorry if i sound thick but iv never looked into engine conversions before now!
it doesnt affect my keyfob workin to unlock the car or owt stupid does it?
and also s4xovts when you said about it not being hard is it pretty straight forward gettin all the right wires to the right sockets?

i dont know to much about the transponder key side of it because my car had the keypad immobiliser. and yeh it woz pretty straight forward for me because both cars woz from the same year it woz just the case of plugging the loom in. all the plugs are colour coded
