Default Hybrid Gearbox?

Alright guys,

It may seem like a daft question but is this possible on a saxo?

Just my mate has a fiesta running 1.6 first and second gears, rs1800 3rd and 4th and a diesel for 5th gear to improve the top end.

could this be possible in a saxo? saxo 1.1 1st and second, 1.4 3rd and 4th and 1.6 5th?

Cheers

this sounds like a stupid idea, the ratios would be all over the place, it wouldn't work!

and tbh, i don't think you can simply seperate the gears off the shaft and change individual gears. not on standard equipment anyway.

ah right, like i said i was just asking since my mates done it but fords seem a bit more simple to work on.

if you could on a saxo it would make a hell of a difference instead of having a 1.1 box and limiting out at like 115-120

as mark1311 said, 5th can be changed because on the ma box i think 5th gear was an after-thought and they just bolted an extra bit to the box!

I don't think it's a wise idea anyway.

Chris205 on here with his 172, he always used to say, it flew up the gears, then you hit 5th and it bogged down.

Just stick with what you have mate not worth messing about.

why would you want to

Differential and syncros in the 1.1 boxes are shit from my past expereience.

IIRC the 5th gear ratios are the same on a VTR box as a 1.1 gearbox anyway.
But if i am wrong and the VTR gearbox does use a different ratio 5th gear the car would be revving its tits off in 4th and then the rev drop will be too much when hitting 5th.
But if the ratios are the same, then its completely pointless changing 5th gear.

you'd also have to think about what final drive you are using when going for this.
I am pretty sure the 1.1 and VTR boxes use the same gear ratios just the final drive is different.

Sure someone who knows a bit more can provide more accurate information.

I'm running an S1 box, with a longer 5th on it (from the 1.4 non-sports box from memory) and seems to be fairly sedate on the motorway.

I had to fit a different input shaft though so that I could use the right gear to fit the splines on the input shaft
