Default 6000 miles gone?!?

I had about 6000 miles to go before my car needed a service, but when i got in my car today and started it up, its gone to 0 and the spanner has come up? Why has this happened?

Yeah don't take too much notice of it. It goes down in stages of 50 usually, but being french it isn't very reliable/accurate.

It's for people who have little idea on motoring, so prevents them going thousands of miles whilst due a service.
