theres alot to do with luck
ive has 2 fiat uno turbos ,one broke down every other day,was fucking hopeless,
the only problem i has with the second one was the washer pump,
my racing saxo vtr hasnt let me down once baring the odd gearbox and driveshaft that you would expect being a race car

have not had a single problem, all I have spent on mine was regular maintenance. The gearbox/clutch was pricey, but I'd rather have that than a half arsed bodge job and having to fix it all the time.
i remember my 106, in the garage every week with a new problem each time when I got to 60 Kmiles. I spent almost 2 grand on repairs/maintenance then sold the fucker to cut my losses.
