Default HOW TO - fit an airfilter to a mk1 1.1 engine

Ok so iv had a few people pm me about how to fit an airfilter so I thought id make a guide seeing as there isnt one. In no way is the way I have done it right, its just the way I did it. Hope it helps

Ok this is how it looks standard, your may look different as I have just pieced mine back together to demonstrate.

First I needed to get the part highlighted below off to make it easier to put the new filter on.

Disconnect the tubes and remember where they came from for when you put it back together.

Next we need to disconnect the parts for the oil breather. This is done by using some pliers to get the clip off and then just pill. On the pictures i have i do not have the clips as i had taken them off before. But they should be where the arrows are pointing.

Now we need to disconnect the airbox, I did this by cutting the rubber clip that was holding it on. If you can get it apart the proper way then do it but i couldnt be bothered and just cut it lol Again the picture below doesnt have the clip on it as i had already cut it off.

Next we need to undo the jubilee clip that is holding it all on. This is done by using a flat headed screw driver.

Once this has been done it should just pull off and you will be left with something looking like this?

Now we need to get the airbox out, it is connected to the cold air feed by another rubber clip which i cut off. It should be where the arrow is pointing on the picture below.

Once this is off with abit of a pull the airbox should slide out.

Now for the fitting of the new filter, get the right adapter to fit that should have come with your filter and put on the inside lip of the filter. Then slot it onto the part we took off earlier and tighten it up with a jubilee clip. Should look something like this;

Put it back on like it was originally with the filter slotting into the gap where the airbox was and do back up the clip on the opposite end to the filter shown below.

After this dont forget to reconnect those tubes you took off earlier which were to the right of the filter.

Now you are left with the oil breather pipe coming out the rocker cover;

you can either put the excisting tubing back on with new clips where they were before;

or you can do what i did and buy a £5 oil breather filter from ebay and put that on like so;

At the end it should end up looking something like this;

Not the best of guides but hopefully will give some people and idea of what to do. If i have missed things, bits are confusing or you need more help then pm me and i will help or change the guide if something is wrong

yeah on my old 1.4 westy there at the top to on the Throttle body but the cone sits on the side you see doesnt face downwards into the engine like the 1.1,
i made a cold air feed direct to my filter as well on my old car but my new saxo is a bmc so theres no problem tbh with that,
but just wonderd on these 1.1 as it sits downwards in the engine bay thats all

Tbh that's the first one I've seen facing down in the engine on a 1.1 I had to improvise before I got my kit Cosby stupidly bought a cone kit off eBay but ran it down from the body to the front of the car using metal tubing lol

Cheers guys, Gaz iv left my original cold air feed on which pushes abit of cold air into the filter. I cant mount it ontop of my throttle body as my bonnet just wont close lol I got the filter for free anyway, wasnt going to bother as it really isnt going to make much difference with a 1.1
