Default views on anti-cuts march

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12864353

anyone watching this on the news?

seriously what do they think they're going to achieve by causing criminal damage? they look like idiots. They're ruining the whole point in the protest, the attention has now shifted to the damage theyre causing rather than the protest on anti-cuts.

Always the way with protests, they start peacefull and a bunch of knobs end up ruining it. The press always focus on the bad things that happen instead of what the others are actually protesting about.
Im for the protestors but I work for the public sector so I wan't to keep my job
I wouldn't mind but they drag everything out, we still don't know who is and isn't getting made redundant and probably won't know for months yet!!

I wan't to move and get some new things but I have to save my money just incase i am one of the ones who gets made redundant, its not fair

Edit - I meant im for the non violent protestors, probably should have been clearer lol

I am quite confused as to why they are attacking the police, just as confused as I was when at the student protests and idiots started attacking police :-\

i think its childish and immature that people honestly think we can get out of this financial situation without cuts, yes some people may lose their jobs BUT as with any cuts someone will lose out, its life, by protesting the government isn't just going to change their minds about the cuts as its the only way out of this situation that labour has got us in

The public sector is always the easy option though, I don't doubt that there are some posts which can go but we are being forced to let 30% of posts go!

The public will be the first ones moaning when libraries have to close or child abuse increases due to social workers losing thier jobs or not being able to do them properly.

I work in IT and without computers, frontline services can't be provided yet its fine to get rid of us?

Sky News interviewed someone (On the peaceful protest) earlier, and she was randomly picked from the crowd. Anyway she said she was protesting against EVERY cut and how they should all stop. How the fuck does she think we're going to get out of the financial crisis? There are some proper idiots out there.

im not denying that the public sector is the first to get picked on but sometimes it does take the piss how many people they have enployed, granted that is down to the system they are working in but still, the government is making cuts everywhere its just it is more in people faces in the public sector, and i do understand your frustration but one sector has to get hit and its just unfortunate that its yours

The main problem with the public sector is the way the budgets work

They are not allowed to 'save money' or transfer it over to the next year.

Basically, if they don't spend all thier budget, they get less next year
For example, say a council gets 1m budget and they don't use 100k of it by the following March.

Come April ( the new tax year), not only do they lose that 100k, they also only get 900k the next year.

So what happens?

All public sector departments scramble to spend ALL of their budgets each year on crap they don't even need, including new staff posts just so they don't get less next year. This not only means that tax payers money is wasted on needless things but it also means that these new posts they hired the previous year are still there.
Hence the reason the public sector has expanded in recent times

Central government brought this issue on themselves and now they are punishing local councils for spending too much even though it was central Government who forced them too in the first place....gotta love politics

Public sector have had it too good for too long. My mate works for a council his gold plated terms & conditions are ridiculous. Even he admits that most of his office are lazy hypercondriacs that milk the terms & conditions.

He reckons alot of his co workers don't really have a proper job.

This is the legacy of labours squandering.

Yep it is indeed.
Councils do waste money but it is because they are forced to by central Government.
