Default CD player only plays discs intermittently

My cd player in the Saxo (standard one) will only intermittently play cds. I thought it didn't like my music choice to begin with lol. Some days it'll play any disc I put in, somedays it won't. When it won't, it tries to read it, then ejects. Would it be worth running a lens cleaning disc through it or is that a waste of time?

Thanks in advance

my standard one used to do this, the way it would only read a disc was when the car is stood still, let it start playing the cd and then start driving . got on my nerves in end so bought another headunit lol

Seems like all the standard cd players show the exact same signs of ageing. It makes it worse if you smoke in your car....

CD lens cleaners generally do jack shit, and it's more effective to open it up and clean the lens with cotton buds and pure alcohol.

To be honest, I think I'm gonna go to halfrauds and just get a Sony one or something. Being able to plug the iPhone in would be good too. Can anyone recommend anything?
