One for the Track-dayers, looking for a cheap track car, Now found one :)
As title says really.
My friend and i were discussing this last night , and we have decided to go in search of a cheap track only car, something that is cheap(ish), lightweight, easy to work with and so on.
Had a few suggestions off others such as Astra (Redtops), Corsa B, vts, 205 etc etc..
Narrowed it down to 3 possibles.
VTS
Corsa B
Metro
Now the one that is appealing to me is the Metty purely because of the cheapness of it lol.
So any thoughts off anyone with experience would be great, looking to do some Track day's next year, so want to get some practice in before i take the GTR out on track lol.
Also if anyone knows of any decent tracks for a Beginner then please feel free to suggest some.
Ta.

Pic the vts mate it's miles quicker and handles well without really doing much. Not much point going round a track in a 2hp metro. You wouldn't enjoy it. The corsa's r quick if they gota red top in but I wudnt show it a corner with all that weight at the front.

vts/gti are slow on track with out spending bigggg money.
metro is a metro don't know alot about them,
corsa b are ok like said above if you have a xe or let. you would need coilovers to sort any handling issues.

Id pick the VTS because I know them inside out so if I had any problems with it id be able to sort it out easy enough and cheaply too.
Parts and mods are cheap and easily available.

Out of the 3, I would have the VTS.
What about a stripped out E36?

Astra Redtop would be my choice.
Pick up a mint 1.4 merit for about £300, get a redtop for about £200.
Get some big block hubs and shafts (astra TD, GSI, sport, cavvy, calibra etc) and bolt it all in. 6 wires that are colour to colour and you're away.
Dead simple, reliable engines, in a great handling, stiff shell.
Then stick the redtop on webers, get some reground cams from autosprint, SBD manifold and you're saying hello to 200bhp.
Handling wise, Bilstein shocks (£200 a set), apex springs, saab 93 ARB, 288mm calipers off a calibra/cavvy turbo with 4 stud Meriva discs.
Here's one i made eariler...

Or buy a Caterham

Wont be easy to find a metro thats not full of rust?
They can be made to stop and go well as nearly all the tuning parts from an old skool mini will fit if you get a pre k series car.
If its a k series then the mg f engine fits in!

An MR2 would also be a good shout for a cheap track car. 178bhp, mid engine, RWD, cheap to buy, easy to work on etc.
Put some sticky tyres on it and for £500 you've got a force to be wreckoned with!
This'll give you the RWD appreciation that you might need, before hitting the track in the liner?
