Default Battery light came on whilst driving

Hi I was just driving home from work and my battery light came on I lost power steering, and the heater stopped working, I turned the engine off and on to see if went out now the car won't turn over?? Any ideas? Cheers

Just been back out to the car, it started the battery light is still on but smells like something is burning?

Yep probably a diode in the alternator,check the alternator wiring as well mate.

as said battery or alternator, happened to me the other day when i went to wales, got a friend to come down with an alternator and battery and have had no problems since, thought i might aswell change both

would start again if it was left for a while but light was still on and didnt last for long till it died again, not to sure bout the burning smell sorry mate

Had a look, think its the alternator as the alternator fan belt isn't spinning ? Is it a hard job to change the alternator and belt? Cheers
