How can you distinguishe between different gearboxes..?
Just fitted another gearbox into my VTR, scrapy thought it was a VTR box but its defo not - as the gear ratios are shorter, so it accelerates faster now but tops out at 125ish. It must be either a 1.1 box or a VTS box i guess but how can I tell...?! Thanks!

if the ratios are shorter its prob a 1.1 box, these are the same as the VTS boxes anyway i think (95% sure)!

Nah dude, the ratios are shorter and my standard box that (as far as i know) has been in the car since new used to do 135 (obv speedos are inaccurate - lets not even start one of those motha f**kin threads..!) Defo either a 1.1 or VTS box!

if its a 1.1 it would top out around 95mph so prob a vts
because you have a bit faster accell it doesnt mean you have a faster box, your old one could have been on its way out so the newer one is alot tighter
thus feeling faster ...
just a theroy as mine did the same when i changed a vts to a vts, it felt faster

nope the vts and 1.1 dont have the same gear set
only vts, gti, s1/s2 rallye use the sport gear set, just with differing final drives.
the 1.1 box is short tho

Well it tops out now around 125, so potentially a VTS box then. Seems a bit quicker as the gear ratios are shorter down the bottom end. Cheers peeps :Y:
