possible earth fault on 106 gti
hi im having trouble with my car and a few friends said this was the place to come so here i am the problem is i can start the car fine everythink works can be driving for 10mins up to 1 hour an can be fine then out of nowhere the speedo and rev counter go crazy and the dash lights go dim at this point the car is running on its last legs and then dies as i said it can be fine one minute then a real B*****D the next any help or ideas as to fix this will be very much appriciated many thanks... SL1M

This could be related to a failing battery but only from experience from similar issues with fiat coupes

Measure your alternator output,or take it to halfrauds for a free check mate.To me it sounds like a dying alternator.

cheers dudes would tht explain the running fine one minute then everything just goes mad the next ?

Yep mine used to do it,then 1 day the alternator packed up completely.

That could be your battery being flat from not being charged by the alternator & what your hearing is the starter motor solenoid clicking.

i put a brand new battery off my mates vtr turbo and it done same thing all ignition comes on as normal them when u try turn the car over it does nothing just a relay clicks in the glovebox changed it same thing ??? its realy doing my head in lol its a 1.4 qs converted 1.6 16v if tht helps cheers again SL1M

oh and when u turn key to turn car over dashlights flicker and so does speedo an rev counter

Mine did that 5 minutes before the crankshaft pulley went. Its either that or your alternator
