My first guess would have been to check brake fluid level. as that triggers the same light when the fluid is low buuuut.
I don't see how the light can come on, the handbrake cable must be loose for the handle to raise up itself (to trigger the warning light)?
My best guess is you've got binding brakes at the rear on one or both sides.
Either they are seizing or the flexi lines at the back are needing replaced as they can swell internally and hold brake pressure and give intermittent binding.
Ideally, you need someone to actually see it.
If your brakes aren't actually coming on, see below at others posts. these switches are made of cheese.
