Default Bendix brakes pad retaining plate

Hi I hope somebody will be able to help me. I am trying to replace the pads and discs on a 1.1 with Bendix brakes. I have got to the stage where I have to remove the pad retaining plate and it just wont budge at all! I have whacked it with a hammer, pulled it, tried to push it with a g clamp. Any ideas? I was not keen to use wd40 but I guess if it shifts it and everything is replaced it wont matter?
Thanks very much

Remove the pin and use a drift and a hammer to knock it towards the outside of the car, away from the engine. Probably a bit of corrosion
