Default What to do for emissions

Hi My MOT is due end of December and every year it fails on emissions and both I and the mechanic struggle to fix it. I want to put it right this year as this will be my last MOT with this vehicle. Before previous MOT my car had:

Cheap ebay cat
cheap extended lambda sensor
old rusty 4-2-1 mani
non standard air filter set-up on my spi

These were the two things that failed on emission:

1. 2nd Fast idle test - CO 0.93 %vol

2. 2nd Fast idle test - Lambda 1.10

And the other faults:

Brakes Failure: RBT Service break efficiency: 49%

Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive

Exhaust emissions lambda reading after 2nd fast idle outside specified limits

So in the past year i have done the following:

replaced the cat with a new £50 BM catalysts CAT converter

Brand new 8v BTB 4-1 manifold were the lambda sits at the end of the mani meaning gasses from all 4 chambers get read

£55 New Bosch lambda sensor wires not extended kept at normal length.

Re installed standard stock 1.1 spi air filter setup and put in a new air filter

flushed and renewed the engine oil with 0w 30 i believe (expensive stuff)

small black vacuum tube going from the air intake mani to the rocker cover oil breather pipe is snapped off need to replace or re glue somehow.

New spark plugs but would need checking as were fitted in January along with new engine oil. New fuel filter new oil filter

So with the above done what's my chances of passing this time or is their more i can do?

Thanks

Drive sensibly and economically to emit as less as possible?

Get a proper Cat in there and rag it like you stole it to the test centre to get it super hot. You are using the wrong oil though, 10w40 semi is best and cheaper too

As said the hotter the cat the better it will work. When its getting tested ask if he can do the emissions test first so your cat doesn't have time to cool down.
