Default Tidying up an axle.

Ive finally got a replacement axle for my 1.1 desire, come off a furio with 58000 on the clock, got the axle and cables for £60.
Its going into the garage to get fitted on saturday morning, but I was wondering if there was anything I could do it to make the drums run smoother etc. Im obviously going to get as much rust off as I can but I dont expect that to help dramatically,
Any help?
Cheers
