Default Dano's DubYaRex (Blobeye WRX Content) New wheels!

not sure how many people will like this.. but I absolutely adore it.. and thats all that matters!

Anyways typical waffle
.. some of you know I had a Racing blue 182.. I loved it to bits, and in bits, it hated me!.. since april ive been rolling about in a 307 1.6 petrol boat.. and its ruining my love of driving!.. I dont drink, I dont smoke, I just love to drive..

For a while now ive been looking at possible new cars, in a realistic budget.. I had pretty much decided to go for something boosted.. just an itch ive wanted to scratch, the sort of cars ive been looking at - Golf 1.8T, Mk1 TT 225, Meg225, Seat LCR, Ep3 TypeR (ok not boosted, but vtec y0).. and such is like! searching for a few days non stop..
when this came up, with a decent spec list, and a fair price to suit.. HAPPY DAYS!

2004 '54' Subaru WRX in Java black (bit like black gold in the right light)

106200 miles
mot til April 15

Full engine rebuild and all the upgrades below 07/03/13 with paper work for everything!

ACL race thrust main & big end bearings

Cosworth steel gaskets with new head bolts

Head skimed

New oil stem seals

New crank seals

New camshaft seals

New piston rings

New clutch Kit

New cam belt kit

Welbro 225 fuel pump

Sti Inlet manifold with TGV deletes

Blue Hawkeye STI Injectors

lHl VF35 Turbo

Front mount intercooler

3" Straight through exhaust (TOO LOUD.. way... Too loud!)

3 Port boost control

Launch control @ 5000rpm

Quick shift

Coilovers (not sure what brand yet, abit too low for me.. will fix this!)

Genuine CarbonFiber boot lid and spoiler.... Rare to find both - £1500 worth!

Silicone intake pipe

Boost Gauge

K&n cone air filter

Car has been maped by Duncan Graham at Race Dynamics - 320BHP / 299Ft/lb With a print out to prove it
(was tuned up to 342.1 with printout, but tweaked down to keep it safe)

And more!....

Bad bits:

Passanger window opens but doesnt close from the passanger side switches, but does from drivers side
Intercooler pipes knocking in places, previous owner used PARCEL tape, to fix CARDBOARD in place to stop it knocking.. pillock!
Little dent on bonnet by the scoop.. not a big one..
coilovers too low.. ill get these raised soon
No boot carpet.. Boohoo..
got an intermittent boost leak.. also has a bov block/cap.. sounds awesome but its not so good for the turbo.. and im pretty sure its that causing the boost leak? ill investigate!..
brake pedal goes down alot before it starts to brake, but once you are on the "bite" of the discs.. it stops well (may need bleeding or different fluid / hoses)

Ive only got a couple pics before ive washed it im afraid, ive spent so much time driving round for the smiles per mile! owned the car 24 hours and already filled the tank from empty 2 and a half times! (drove home 220 miles on £45 of Vpower.. yes thats 21.8mpg) but i was "playing" with boost and driving around some of the more interesting roads round this way!

and yes im parked on double yellows.. sue me the other side of the road is garages that arent "in use" anymore abit deralict, so the lines are irrelavent now..

Pics!

(yes shes low on the rear.. ill raise it up ASAP! dont shoot me, I didnt slam it)

And thats it for now!

plans:

Raise it..
clean it..
find / fix the boost leak \/ could be because the lack of bov?
fit a bov.. the chatter is addictive but not got for the turbo.. ill get a video soon for the lols..
smaller back box.. you can fit your head in the one and it annoys EVERYONE including me, good at setting car alarms off tho!
Carbon bonnet + Scoop (just to match the rear)
few more guage to replace the dash clock
STI Brembo's
STI front bumper spats/winglets
STI Fog covers
front bumper lip spoiler/splitter
rear bumper splitter
new wheels with sticky tyres
Mesh over the intercooler to protect it
Mesh in the boonet scoop
New set of wheels (not sure what style yet)
Hella supertones
debadge front grill
obligatory [Hoonigan] sticker somewhere

C and C welcome.. I know its not everyones taste but Im seriously in love with it and thats all I really care about
it goes like a stabbed rat, makes exotic noises like its eating squirrels, annoys old people and makes children cry! what more could you ask for

the important bit, it makes me want to drive for the sake of driving again! YES!!
Cheers for looking!

Don't get me wrong it's not bad but given the choice of one of these or an evo and I would have the evo without a doubt.

Doesn't sound mechanically mint... I predict trouble!

Hopefully you'll enjoy it though and it will be trouble free. Personally could never own one, one of the worst interiors ever.

So it's got a leak that's not good for the turbo and you have so far been through two and a half tanks of petrol, and by the sounds of it boosting the shit out of it. Sensible.

Personally, love this shape.. Looks decent, but you have quite a few things to do.. A lot of which could be done at home with spanners.. Supposed to be a nice weekend over the country, so could be worth getting some of them sorted..

As for the ones saying should have got an Evo.. These don't need servicing every 6k.. Which would always make me lean more towards an Impreza... Although the Evo does look better...

Just get the problems sorted before you go along boosting the life out of it.. Don't want to be replacing a turbo or something within a month of buying it!

It's not how hard I'm driving it, it's how far, I drove it home 220 miles and I've done 600 miles round some of the lovely scenic roads this area has to offer.. I haven't 'boosted the shit out of it' I've just been enjoying it

It's a subaru, not a diesel barge, I bought it for fun! It's going to get used!

It's not leaking water or oil, it's not burning oil, it doesn't tap or knock, smoke or bang (except the exhaust pops and flames) it's a small intermittent boost leak and it pulls like an absolute train!

I love the interior! Just needs a touch screen headunit and better speakers and ill be super happy!

Guy I bought it off only had it 3 months, his circumstances changed and had to move further from his daughters school, it was the guy before him who 'built' it, the guy I bought it from added the cardboard..

Anyways, I love it and I'm gonna look after it, thanks for your helpful input

Ok it's not forged but its all new parts in all the right places and ill be keeping a close eye on it mechanically and I use it but I don't abuse it

I drove it to work yesterday and I drove more carefully than I did the 307

The car is amazing and it really makes me smile, worth every penny!

My favourite shape scooby, get a lot of car for your money imo, some bad points like you say but at least you are aware of them and there items you can sort yourself, so hopefully should serve you well and it allows you to tinker a little.

Prioritise a boost leak test, and get it rolling roaded by a scooby specialist, just to check how healthy it all is! For the sake of £100 for both the piece of mind is well worth it, it's the first thing I did, found out it was running a touch lean so I get it SD Mapped

Better to be safe than sorry, I've known people with scoobies/evo's just take the car and enjoy it without taking precautions and had no issues. But i've also seen some blow turbos/engines as a result of not taking some minor precautions and something as simple as running too lean has cost them big.

The chatter is addictive, when I bought my evo I loved the sound of it but i was worried of damage to the turbo that may have been caused. But it's a strange set-up it does have a BOV which chatters if driving steadyish but if driving hard it dumps rather than chatters... hard to explain but best of both worlds.. i'm pretty sure it's a TIAL!

Here's an example of mine best simulated at around 30 seconds you hear it DUMP then on next change it flutters.. depends what boost i hit but it never chucks large amounts of air back through the turbine. Had my turbo checked over, been running this set-up at 1.3bar and 1.6bar for almost a year now with around 5000 miles and there's no damage or deterioration at all to the blades

Cheers for that pal^

That's ideal!

I seriously love this car and can't wait to get it exactly how I want it, I intend to keep it as long as possible, I'm still surprised how easy it is to drive!

Ill get the niggles sorted asap!

Couple updates:

Had the scoob checked over at a local garage who specialise in performance cars (ive posted about the place before, Autosmartpembs - they have a couple of rather tasty cars including a mk1 1jz 740bhp supra, and a 550bhp gto) been using the same place for over 2 years now, got to know the owner (Mike) pretty well and trust his workmanship!

He's fixed my boost leak, a jubilee clip had come lose and the offending pipe was moving under pressure, happy days, he also found a slight oil leak, just a couple drips but worth sorting asap - which he's fixed, and he's checked the turbo for damage / play, none at all, which there shouldn't be anyway as its a new unit but I wanted it checked for peace of mind..

Mikes been for a spin in it, and he's impressed with how it spools and puts power down, he really disapproves no recirc/bov tho, he agrees the noise is fun but it does hinder performance so I'm on the hunt for a updated recirc or 50/50 bov.. Researching my options before I commit to buy one

I've now clocked up 1200 miles since I brought the car home and the more I get used to to it, the bigger my smile gets!

Some piccies, and a touch of progress..

Took some arty pics! iPhone quality of course!

Raised the coilovers, temporary (found out they are raceland.. Surprisingly comfy for budgets)

7 days in to ownership and some one kindly reversed in to my door and didnt leave a note.. Pretty sure it was the Indian restaurant next door but I can't prove it :/

I don't mind the little dents.. It's the big dent on the line of the body work!!

Well I managed to push the worst part back out.. Leaving a couple of smaller ripples and a scuff in the paint (which I can live with as they don't catch your eye as much as a dented line in the body work)

On the look out for a replacement door eventually, one on eBay for £80 but not in a hurry for that..

I'm currently saving up for Sti bumper winglets, fog covers and a front splitters a rear diffuser

Bit skint at the moment.. Bought some wheels (coming soon).. 17x9 et:43

Got fitment bro? Hense why I raised the coilys so high..

(Poor track puma in the background there)

And I gave the car a proper wash n wax and took a couple nice pics including my favourite pic so far..

And finally my fav pic so far!

That's it for now! I'm off out for another drive

Thanks for looking!
