Hi guys
Before you all jump on the 'DO YOUR HOMEWORK' band wagon, I'll start by stating i'm fully competent in the mechanical side of things, was brought up around cars, always done my own services repairs and mods. I fully understand the workings of a turbocharger, compression ratios, air:fuel blablabla, looking for advice not an idiot to tell me what an idiot im being.
I just don't play with electrics, it's ballache!
Had a VTR for about 8 months now, lovely little car to drive but its lacking in power.
Looking at turbo'ing her, but i've got a few queries regarding electricals and some other bits.
Firstly - can someone please tell me what injectors would be in an '02 VTR, i've searched and searched the internet but most of what people have to say is total pig shit - some say bosch/pico/marelli but i belive the pico ones are VTS? Just a bloody part number will do!
I want a simple answer - what (bigger) injectors will be a direct fit to suit turbo application?
The boost side of things will be purely mechanical, t piece control valve the lot. My main misunderstanding is the purpose of the standalone ECU.
Admittedly, i don't understand the in's and out's of an ECU's working regarding remaps - how will a standalone deal with a car running boost that has no electrical input bar the MAF?
I hear the 3 plug is near impossible to get done?
Is the reason for needing a standalone ECU only so the ECU can actually be mapped?
My logic is that is the turbo is run on a mechanical basis, it's only the fuelling and ign curve that need to be accounted for. This is where i get confused - will the map run everything OK from just a MAF sensor?
Can mapping be done from a set pressure level, lets say 7psi, to run the right amount of fuel and spark properly?
Long story short i don't understand how a turbo can be mapped into a n/a car, unless that's the magic of standalone systems....
Finally, does it matter which ECU i go with? Megasquirt/Dastek/Predator etc (trying to keep it budget build!!!)
Thanks in advance guys, just getting all my info before i buy anything!
