Default Little fire

So out tonight with my mates being a usual yobo going quickly and then stopped at the stereotypical McDonald's car park and I had an alarming burning smell....smoke coming out from under the car...look under and the insulation attached to the fuel tank is on fire even though it's still in its original place and its untouched! Exhaust wasn't touching it or anything!
Anyone else had this same problem??
Any ideas?

Nope! It's about 2 feet before the joint to the back box too, so it's not that.

Odd, I'd rip it out and check the lines around the fuel tank for any leaks. It could've just been a freak accident with a spark. You'd have to be unlucky but it's possible.

I was thinking fuel lines leaking and soaked it and then it's caught fire but it hasn't smelt of fuel at all and don't see how it could have.
Will have a little investigate.
I'm guessing it's needed because otherwise it could melt the fuel tank I'm guessing?
