Default Thermostatic sandwich plate

Just wondering if I need a thermostatic oil sandwich plate for my 16v turbo engine? I understand without it that the oil will take longer to warm up so will stay thicker for longer etc etc.
Does this really matter or does it just mean I need to drive steady for longer until it's warmed up?
Cheers
