Default MK2 Posi Blue Furio SOLD

Hey guys been awhile since i've been on this site so i suppose a bit of an update/story is in order.

So back in 2010 i got my first car at 17 and it was a 1.1i Desire

For £1150 it had: neons, TSW alloys, smoothed boot and of course all those sexy stickers. WHAT A BARGAIN AMIRIGHT?!?!

So i did some work on it over the 3 years i had it. Took off all those amazing mods listed above and got some white VTS alloys, Black angel headlights as well as some beautiful white rear badges. It wasn't much but i could call it my own.

Unfortunately on may 1st 2013 i bumped into the back of someone at 5 mph and dented all my bonnet and grill and my radiator fan clips were destroyed (their car was fine and got off scott free in terms of insurance )

So the plan afterwards was to just replace the body panels because mechanically the 1.1 was perfect. However plans changed when my dad found a 1.4 furio not too far away that was described as "cheap due to knocking noise at front". My dad and I went to investigate and realised the issue were some worn ball joints and perhaps at worse an engine mount issue. We took the car for £300, put some new wishbones on and did a full service and we were good to go. My new car!

So a little mod list:

Colour coded bumpers
After-market head unit (not sure if after-market speakers)
VTR alloys

As you can see not much but for the last 2 years it's done what it's needed to do which is get me from Point A to Point B and i've loved it every step of the way.

Some work does need to be done on it but nothing crazy. I got a bit missing from the front bumper as well the backbox being held on with some metal cable ties as well it being in desperate need of a clean.

Other than those few things I would like to start to spend some money on it and get a car i can call my own and then be happy with for the next few years.

SO THE PLANS:
Smoked front headlights
White interior speaker and heater covers
White center console
Calipers painted Yellow/Red
GTI leather interior

Undecided plans:
White front citroen badge
White mirror caps
White rear badges
VTS alloys
Lower 35mm/40mm
New exhaust system
Window tinting

So those are the plans. Not sure whether i'll give the painting a go myself or might just buy it already done and save me the worry of messing it up and "wasting" money.

Would love to start going to car meets with a car i'd be proud of. That's the main reason i've never gone and the fact i know no-one who goes to one and that scares the shit out of me

Feedback and opinions always appreciated and hopefully will be updating occasionally.

Just an update: decided to take it slow but make sure i do it right. Looking to get some of the parts so i can learn how to paint them myself. Also going to look to give it a proper clean out and wash this monday so was just wondering if anyone has any advice in terms of cleaning their car? Recently ran out of the shampoo i was using and have a hose at my disposal so let me know some good tips & tricks for car washing.

Small update:

Ordered some Powerflex exhaust mounts to replace my tempory cable tie fix. In discussion of getting some dash trim to practice some painting on. Don't want to use the ones on the car and then mess them up and not have a good fall back on.

Okay decided to be productive on my day off from work and get to work on fixing some issues with my car. On the agenda today were:

1) Hoover out and clean up the interior

2) Fix right brake light

3) Fit new exhaust mounts

4) Wash car

4a) Fit new speakers

4b) Clean out shed ready so i have a place to spray paint under cover

So first couple of steps were pretty simple and straight forward. Used some mr sheen on the interior plastic to make it look nice and shiny as well as making my whole car smell minty fresh.

" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />

Plus i gained so much room for activities in my boot!

" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />

There were still loads of little bits stuck in the carpet so any advice on how to properly clean up all the crap would be appreciated, i just went at it with a hoover.

Forgot to take some pictures of me fixing the tail light but was pretty straight forward fix to be honest, got the pliers to undo the bolt and just replaced the bulb. I did notice some rust on the circuit board so decided to swap it out for my 1.1's one just to be on the safe side. Also whilst i was at it i took off the left one to just drain out some of the water that had filled up in the lights. If anyone has some advice for the water in the lights thing let me know xD

Next step was to get underneath the exhaust, put the axle stand under the backbox to support it as a took off the metal cable ties i had put on to temporary hold it up whilst I ordered these powerflex mounts. 1st one went on pretty easy but the other was a bit of a pain so using my jack, i raised the backbox up abit more and managed to slip the 2nd one on, now sits nice and tight on the bumper as well

" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />

Noticed quite abit of surface rust so will be sure to keep an eye on that one and when my dad has a chance might look at grinding back abit and sorting it out.

Now after i had put the exhaust mounts on it started to lash it down so i decided to spend the time well and clean up the shed. I filled up 2 massive bags worth of rubbish and still got 3/4 boxes of stuff for my parents to sort through and decide whether we still need. Noticed a few spare pieces of wood as well as a big sheet of pvc so might try and make myself a table for me to spray on when i get a spare chance

Also whilst searching through the shed junk i found some turtlebeach wax and some old car cleaning supplies but unfortunately no actually car wash stuff or any clean buckets for that matter so i decided to go against cleaning my car with crap stuff and hold off till i order some nice new stuff.

So the rain died down a bit so i decided to give it a go at changing these front speakers over. I bought the JBL GT5-502 speakers for £20 I've never done anything like this so was fearing the worse and the speakers needed to be soldered on. Luckily enough took off the door cards, (which was pretty easy considering most of the clips were already broken) un-did the 4 screws and a little bit of wiggling with the clips and off came the speakers MAD I did notice the screws were quite loose when taking them off and on the left side they were barely holding the speakers in, so i tried out the screws that came with the speakers. Unfortunately these screws were even worse and didn't fit right so i decided to use the better of the 2 sets and just hope for now they'll be alright till i can look more into this issue. It felt like there was no thread for the screws to go into....

" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />

" border="0" class="tcattdimglink" onload="NcodeImageResizer.createOn(this);" alt="" />

One little extra thing i did today was put some vaseline around the sunroof seals to help it abit, seems like i've got abit of a leak coming from there right now.

So that's it for now, i've ran out of time for this week. Some stuff i've bought for next week:

Interior heater covers, front speaker covers and rear badges from Dan-Subtle MAD

New mirrors as mine are kinda knackered from Jimmy-Boy and i want to try out spraying the mirror caps.

New interior and exterior plastic trim clips to sort out my door cards and headlight trim, might look into fixing some of the clips on the VT kit as well but not quite sure how to do that yet.

Other than that i'm still looking to buy a interior center console and some front chevrons and if anyone has some advice on what kind of car cleaning stuff i should get (just for beginner please) that would be great Right now i've got a hose, sponge, some turtlebeach wax and some cloths.

In terms of spray paint stuff i'm going to get: Wet and dry sandpaper 240-2000 grit, plastic primer, white coat and lacquer and that should hopefully be all i need for painting

Also going to buy some tigerseal to help secure the new rear badges and mirror caps.

As well as this i've got a slow puncture on back right tyre so need to get that looked at in the week somehow -_- SO MUCH TO DO AND ONLY 1 DAY I CAN WORK ON MY CAR, as the light lasts longer in the day it should get easier for me though so that's a plus

So that's it hopefully you enjoyed the progress and read, will update when some more stuff arrives.

Yay first person replied! xD Thanks man, hopefully the updates will keep coming thick and fast but the main day i can work on stuff is mondays so just got to try and cram everything in at once.

Good luck with your MOT man! if one thing i've learnt from owning saxos for 4+ years is that they are cheap to fix and plenty in scrapyards. Emissions looks good so looks like you've got a working CAT

Get some tcut on those scratches photobucket is super simple to use, just upload and then use the direct link. Then on sax-p just use the insert image button (the icon with the mountain) and then add it in.

Hello everyone!

So today was monday and that meant car day!

Aim for today:

1) Fix number plate light

2) Replace door card plastic clips

3) Full car clean

So #1 took a lot longer than needed. I took off the plastic trim when i took have got to the light clips from the side. It might have been a bit tougher but i think it would have been possible and saved all the hassle of taking the trim off.

#2 went pretty quickly as well apart and took off my speaker covers so i can spray them soon. For some reason my left door was a bit tricky to put back on because the rubber seal near the window had bent in -_-. Also i found not all the clips were working around the speaker area, maybe my door cards have warped due to not having the clips for so long but oh well atleast it's better than it was.

Now time for #3

Before Pics:

So the tools for the job:
Alloy Wheel Brush, Astonish Wheel Cleaner, Turtle Wax Zipwax Wash and Wax, Kent Car Care Q6600 Micro Fibre Towels, Turtle Wax Easy Shine Car Polish Cleaner High Gloss Liquid, Some cloths, 2 buckets for the rinse and wash method and a trusty hose.

So overall i thought i didn't use enough wash and wax in my water (to be fair on the bottle it said half a cup and then fill your bucket so no sort of comparison for me) and therefore i had to borrow my stepdad's wax to get a nicer finish. The plan was to just use the wash and wax and then that was it.

Because it was the first time using these cloths and towels there was quite a lot of fluff coming off of them so I had that to deal with -_-.

Whilst going around the car i noticed that the paint of my car is actually quite bad, there is some random black stuff stuck onto the boot and a lot of stone chipping marks around the car

So the order i went whilst cleaning was Rinse --> Wash --> Rinse --> Dry --> wax right side and boot --> buffer out wax --> wax left side and front --> buffer out wax.

So onto the wheels..... I was quite curious how much work this cleaner can actually do so i did what it said and sprayed into onto the wheels for a minute and then rinse off..... It literally did nothing..... It said for "tough dirt" to use a brush and so i put the cleaner back on gave it a few minutes and then went at it with the brush, i got off some of the dirt on them but not a noticeable difference. I plan to do my wheels again during the week but taking them off the car and giving them a proper clean on the inside as well because there is a massive build up of brake dust in there.

I didn't have any window/glass cleaner but luckily i read my mr sheen and it said glass on it so result Gave my windows a good clean inside and out as well as my mirrors, headlights, number plates and tail lights.

Unfortunately my phone was being a real A-hole so only got 1 pic for now but will get some more tomorrow hopefully and show you some closer results.

In other news my mirrors came so i figured out how to get the caps off of without breaking the clips which went pretty well. So the plan throughout the week will be practicing my painting on the caps and see what kind of result i can get with them.

Also had a small go at cleaning up my exhaust with my 240 grit wet & dry sandpaper just to see if i could get through to the original chrome and with enough work i think i can get back to there and then use the autosol metal polish to make it look nice and pretty.

I also had a look in my engine bay and it's just covered in surface dirt so I was wondering how safe it is to just spray a hose into it and get rid of a lot of the rubbish?

Also tomorrow after work i'll probably spray on some wet tyre shine spray to get a nice finish on the wheels.

That's about it thanks for reading and i'll keep you posted on my next bit of progress

Thanks man, i'll get some pics of the paint imperfections tomorrow and maybe you could share some advice and knowledge on the best way to tackle it I fear a respray considering the issues are on practically every panel so I would need a full respray.

Good luck with your furio send me a link to your progress thread when you get it sorted
