Default Overheating

I have a 2001 Saxo first 1.1, my headgasket had gone, new engine fitted, and new thermostat fitted.

but still overheating? no heat from the blower either....

there are no leaks, its not losing water, there are no exhaust gasses getting into the cooling jackets, and there is no oil in the water either...

it also empties the cooling system completely within ten/fifteen minutes of filling it up.

Is the radiator blocked?

It's air locked probably. If the head gasket went badly the the cooling system could be full of oil

ive never had this problem untill the engine was swapped, my mechanic thinks the rad is blocked and the engine is dud too... disappointing, thought i would come on here and see if it is common and what the solutions are?

If it's been bled properly it shouldn't lose water. So you've either got a leak or it's not bled right, if the heater isn't hot then I'd say the latter. That's if the matrix hasn't been bypassed . This new engine..has it got a good water pump and is the head gasket ok or was it just boshed in with no checks or servicing?

pump is good, head is good, only 60k miles on it which is lower than what the original had at 73k when i first started driving it. heater hasnt been bypassed, blows hot then goes cold after about ten minutes, and then the overheat light comes on a minute after it starts blowing cold

doesnt matter now... changing the radiator from a donor car and getting the engine replaced again as my mechanic confirmed blown head again due to multiple over heats on the second engine... not been the best few weeks ahwell, on to bigger and better things

There's three bleed points in the engine bay, it's a 5 minute job to do it yourself and you may save yourself a fortune.

Do you've an expansion tank? If not, cut up a coke/lucozade bottle, remove the radiator cap and shove the bottle in upside down, fill the bottle with water and now you've an expansion tank.

Turn the car on and allow it to get up to temperature... I just remembered theres a thread on this. Follow this guide - http://www.saxperience.com/forum/showthread.php?t=98877

Also, down behind the engine there's two pipes leading to your heater matrix. When the car's hot check these pipes are warm and theres not an airlock there. Make sure and give your water pipes a good squeeze when you're bleeding the system too.
