Default Saxo vtr mk2 but with a mk1 engine, rev problems

Hey all,

Im looking for some advice from the wealth of knowledge that is saxp. I have searched and have also tried a few solutions to no avail.

Basically the car starts first time when the engine is cold and has no problems, once its warmed up the revs start to go up and down, sometimes going to stall but so far it revs itself back up. If you turn the engine off once it is hot and go to restart it will struggle to restart and sometimes flood. If you do get it hot start then generally it will rev up and sit around 3000 revs only to settle again slowly once you come to a complete stop. It also stinks of fuel everytime it starts when it struggles. If the car is left in direct sunlight for a while it will struggle too.

I have changed the crank sensor and made very little difference to start with and is now back to being how it was. I have dismanteled the throttle body and cleaned it out which made no difference and is dirty once more. Im really out of ideas? Has anyone had this? I did order a new tps but when i got it through it was broken already so am in the process of getting another one sorted out.

Im in poole, dorset anyone local help? Tbh i dont mid travelling if you think you can help me.

Thanks guys really appreciate any help you can give me.

Whats the battery like? A failing battery can cause havoc with the ECU and sensors giving all sorts of spurious faults.

Well i did have trouble with the battery a little while ago cleaned up the terminals and the earths and havent had issue since. The problem then was you would put the key in and turn it to prime the fuel pump, all would be normal then when you wen to start the car, it would earth out and everything would die. First time i bumped it to fix then after that just moving the positive terminal around would fix it temporarily anyways. Cheers for the reply mate

Temp sensor will be misreading, so permanently trying to rich the fuelling up thinking its cold.
