Default 16" pug 206 alloys

Can anybody confirm whether the alloys from a 206 gti / c would fit straight onto my mk2 vtr. I've read mixed opinions so far so wondered if anybody on here has done it?

It's definitely been done a few times not sure if you would need spacers though

I've read a few saying spacers might be needed? Whas the reason for needing them?
