Default Oil temperature gauge going up and down. Faulty dashboard?

Good day,

I recently bought a saxo vts 16v phase 1, it is equipped with I believe an oil temperature gauge. I went to a car parts shop and told the owner that I need a new oil temperature sensor.

I showed him my dashboard. On the dashboard there is a little pin that I can push up and down and when I do the gauge goes up or down. Is it normal to be able to control the gauge with the pin? The car shop owner found that to be very strange and he said I would be better of replacing my entire dashboard.

When im driving with a cold car the gauge stays down. When the car is hot the oil gauge goes all the way up and beyond. I can put it down a little when I press the pin down or up. When the car is cold I can even make it go all the way down or all the way up.

I do not understand what is going on. What do you guys think?

It's okay

No, the gauge shouldn't move with pressing any pins/buttons on the dashboard.

It's probably a faulty connection in the cluster.
