rusty nuts

Hi, couldn't find an answer to my question searching the forum. Just bought my vtr - collect it from dealers next week. Every one I looked at, included mine, has rusty wheel nuts. Is it possible to replace them with better ones that won't rust? (Can you get anodised for instance? I like the factory alloys and think it would look good if you could get wheel nuts that matched the colour of the car).

just take them off and paint them mate itll take a while but worth it in the end i need to do mine coz mine are migin

when i bought mine it had rusty wheel bolts but when i picked it up a week later they had changed them for new ones

you can get some different colours in wheel nuts mate. what colour is your car? i've seen anodised blue, red and silver.

i painted mine black to match the wheels in the end as they went rusty even though they were new ones when i bought the saxo

Just noticed this on mine. Mine has been parked up for last week, then was looking at them yesterday and they have gone rusty.

I'm going to buy some caps to go over them.

surely if you paint them, when you come to put them on the paint just comes off from using a wrench on them?

Cheers for all the replies! I found that you could get replacement wheel bolts on ebay (though of course you would have to buy new locking bolts as well, so probably talking £30 in all). According to the dealers I spoke to when looking around the bolts rust as they're a different metal to the alloy wheels and the two don't suit. I'm taking a guess, but I wouldn't be surprised if by fitting standard chrome wheel bolts you would get the same result given time (i.e. they'd rust). I've seen some zinc plated ones which should do the trick, though ideally I'd like blue anodised ones to match my car (it's 'poseidon blue'). I reckon that would look good. As has been said, I don't think it's worth painting them as it'd come off when removing a wheel (and be a pain in the arse job to do).

But I've only just got the car though I'm gonna put some miles in and enjoy it first, rusty nuts regardless.

I think most wheel nuts rust tbh overtime.

The main solution is before putting new ones on cover them in copper grease to slow down the rusting. The problem we all face is that the wheel hub itself may contain rusty areas so with will in the end spread to the nut (long long time though!)
The mistake i made when fitting my new wheels is i didnt use any grease and after 5months my wheel nuts already look like this:
