Willsy's Saxo - The Story Explained (Pg9 The respray summarised)
1) The Beginning...
It all began on a cold but sunny morning on 4th December 2004, after a month or so of looking around at cars id had my mind set on a Saxo from the start. After accepting that id have to start with a small engine i went to look at a Saxo with a difference....
A 1.0i Open Scandal 1998 Special Edition Model...OOOOOHHHH
She began life in bog standard form looking like this (not exact car)
Lovely jubbly. Whats so 'Special Edition' about it you ask....
Its....A RAG-TOP!
So happy as Larry i paid for her and whisked her away into the unknown, little did she know that life would never be so simple from now on....

2) The Modding soon began
Well being 18 and not knowing any better (Also before my time on Saxperience) I did what every new modder does (Dont they??? ) I bought a copy of Max Power for some inspiration!!! Holy Cow!
Mistake count #1
So after trauling through there were some obvious choices: Alloys were an absolute must, I went from these:
To these: 15' Something or other alloys with Toyo Proxes
You've gotta admit the ride height was immense, i got confused with the daily hustle and bustle of 'Mum Trucks' congregating outside my house at School rush hour! all i needed was a long haired wig and a small child (Not a problem)
Secondly was the purchase of some Evo Style mirrors- this was the point in which i discovered EGAY!
They were simple to wire up (In the end) and i was genuinely pleased.
Then a dark cloud covered the Saxo, suddenly a sheer moment of madness occured (Small children look away, others be warned this pic is not for the feint hearted, sufferers of Asthma, heart conditions and in general anyone thats sane)
I purchased some.....Lexus lights!!!
pIC HAS BEEN REMOVED DUE TO ITS OBSCENE CONTENT
Mistake count #2
Bring on next payday....

3) Max Power/Egay madness continues..
The interior started out like a Clowns bedroom, a bit whacky. Either that or as someone from here once pointed out- Citroen paid a child to design these with pastels!
Yes you get the idea.. Something needed to be done to aid the situation, again due to the newly contracted Max Power disease i turned to Chrome!!!
I bought some window winders, a gearknob, a handbrake handle.
The old gearknob just wouldnt come off no matter what, i used the mighty tool known as THE ANGLE GRINDER! to hack off the stuck plastic.
I then decided that it would be a fantastic idea to purchase some new licence plates (Again this photo contains graphic content)
Jaybiss would like me to mention that this is one of his favourite photos.
I also purchased the nice new black mats and i sprayed the Console silver with the heater vents

4) I joined Saxperience!!!
Eventually after a few months of being dragged down the wrong path i decided to join Sax-P. If i hadnt i have no idea what would be happening now.
Shortly after i got talking to this Lad (Cookies for everyone that can identify him)
Throughout the remainder of this story he is pretty much the sole cause of all my money spending with his suggestions, I will get him to splash some of his own cash one day.
Also note but please pass it off as a mad hallucination, i had applied some chrome washer jets and aluminium wiper blades at this point...

5) I got a full time job!!
This is when things really started to move fast, money was coming in and i had nothing to spend it all on, so the car got some treatment.
Due to some of the shocking images in the previous parts ill start this one on a high...
I was convinced to fit a VT kit to my Saxo! and better still i was going to do it myself! I felt a bit crazy horse during that month..
The kit was fitted! i couldnt afford a good paintjob on it to begin so being quite impatient i decided to get it done on the cheap just to keep me going for a while.
Then the Sax-P faithful convinced me that Max Power were evil and i decided to change a few things:
A mild 'Upgrade' to the lexus lights came in the way of some Red LED's
A mk2 wiper was applied (Much to the disgust of my hands which suffered some battle scars after a fight with a flat blade)
And i changed the Number plates
A custom backbox was also purchased which is one of my favourite parts of the car

6) A year had passed
Next came a sound purchase in the way of Mk1 Angel Eye Headlights
I loved the look of these and was very pleased with the fresh look that it gave after ditching the tired looking standard headlights-Good riddance!
Finally the time had come to lower! Many questions were asked in terms of handling, looks, which kits are best etc etc and this was the outcome:
Lowered 40mm all round on Full Koni Adjustable Kit, quite pricey but you know its gotta be pretty good if they give a lifetime guarantee on it
The local Peugeot specialist is a friend of my Dads so he allowed me to use the hydraulic ramps on a saturday morning and i set about lowering the front suspension myself.
I then booked the saxo in to have the torsion bar done a week later-I was not that brave yet!
Next addition to the car was Crystal black side repeaters which were a good modification for the price. I also got hold of some Saxo door badges as id been a culprit of 'Badging up' to a VTS, which wasnt entirely my fault as thats what was on the kit when i bought it

7) I got carried away...
Jaybiss is to blame for the next addition to the car..
With the French Car Show fast approaching which was due to be my first Event i wanted to feel the part a little more, i had plenty of cash saved up so i decided it was time to 'De-Chav' and sort out some of the additions that i had made to my car bodywork and also my mind was quickly changed about getting Seat Covers:
Yes you guessed it: Jaybiss (Git) persuaded me that Schaffino Leather were great and that i needed a leather interior.....so here it is...
For £640 i got the following:
Trimmed seats (actual seats themselves included)
Re-trim of my rear bench
All 4 doorcards
Gearstick and Handbrake gaitor to match
An absolute bargain and many thanks to Suzie for doing it for me
I also purchased a Single wiper conversion:
I was quite excited about the Wiper conversion, it included washer jets in the arm itself which meant i could finally get rid of the awful Chrome washer jets that some muppet had put there
At this point i'd had a full respray of my VT kit so now it was looking great and actually matching (As close as yellow can possibly get) the rest of the bodywork
The Drums were painted and so were the calipers
I had a week working on the Saxo before the show itself and a few Sax-P members made an appearance to help out and work on their own cars before the show (Thanks to Luke, Craig, Adsayer, Jaybiss and MikeCracknell, Ads and AdamSax also made appearances
Other additions before French Car Show were:
Colourcoded mirrors- these desperately needed doing, they looked so bad in black (Awaits Yate5ys comment about them now )
Coded front bumper lip
And another very pleasing modification: the Samurai rear Splitter/Valance
Oh yes and lets not forget the smoked Rear Clusters, they look amazing, thanks to all that convinced me to fit these
A final touch was some nice new alloys, Id decided to be a bit different and try some White Multispokes after numerous conversations and alot of ummm's and ahhh's

9) Quiet time
Between French Car Show and TRAX not alot happened, which was unusual, i faced many withdrawal symptoms but couldnt quite pin my finger on which direction i wanted to go next, so many options.
I decided to keep it simple and wait to see what other inspiration id get from the next show.
The car was de-wipered. It came off fairly easy due to a fairly recent change from mk1 to mk2 wiper anyway.
Also i wanted a smoother look so the Citroen and the Saxo badges from the rear were ditched
The rest was general cleaning and an awful lot of it too.
TRAX arrived and finally i felt as if all the hard work and love had paid off
I had to post this pic, brings back some memories and a tear to my eyes
Many thanks to those who have admired how the progress has come along and thought of my car as being worthy enough for:
Best Modded Saxo on the stand
And also Show and Shine winner.
Ive got my work cut out now trying to retain those at the next event
