Hi People,

I want to reset my ECU on my Saxo VTS MK1 how do i go about it ? Can I just unplug the battery ?

no that wont work, you will have to connect your ecu to a laptop and reset it with the program.

You can do it at Citroen garage if you wish (I know that nobody likes Citroen garage). They have all equipment for it. It will take 10 min. Don't know where will you find necessary software to do it your self.

The myth is that leaving it unplugged over night will reset the ecu. What it won't do however is to wipe out any fault codes that have been logged as permanent faults. To do a complete reset will require a lexia diag machine and for that you must go to a garage. I seem to remember axsaxoman telling me about a new euro law a while back which meant that PSA were no longer able to deny independant garages access to the technology to manage their ecu's. Whether this has come true or not i do not know but if it is true you should be able to go to any independant specialist who has bought a lexia.

I reset the ecu with unplag battery ove night,

I do it because cars o2 sensoris breakdown and when ı do this (unplug) car goes very bad 20-30 minutes and after this time car goes very well

I don't know if unpluggin the ECU do result in any effect, but the truth is that I did it (about half an hour) and then I could notice some power improvement, may be self-suggestion or perhaps it's related with anything else I might have touched...

so r u tryin to say that unpluggin the battery may benifit the car by giving an increase in power

it probably wont give it more power but by restting the ECU after fitting mods or say the change from summer to winter etc... the ecu will slightly relearn its map to the new mods, hence a possible increase

grrr, my car is well dodgy, some days I get in it and its like shit off a shovel..really responsive throttle, after i've been in it a for over a couple of hours (if i've been givin it abit) it really slows down especially in first gear...floor it and it takes a while to pick up the speed, if I leave the engine off for a few hours then and go back to it, usually performs at its best....really dodgy, I used to think it was my head but its not...and I dont think its anythin to do with the warm/cold weather.

Attention !
May not be the same thing disconeccting the battery than unplugging the wires from the ECU !
From my electronics background I can say that electronic devices behave differently in cases like these, ECU may have a startup routine triggered by a plugging of the cord not by a cut of feed and then reestablishing it again.
Anyway unplugging ECU connector (most like an euroscart) you are sure you're doing both things.
