Default Suspension

Now we know that generally the standard suspension on a saxo leaves a little to be desired. But what suspension is best for comfort and ride, within reasonable price ranges? what sort of price would I be looking at for a full kit? Im looking to go down 40mm at some point, but don't want to feel like the dash is gonna slap me in the face

You'll be fine on 40mm springs.

You could get a kit but it's not necessary. What are/will you be using the car for? Daily road use or on the track?

will be daily use mate, is there anything you need to get adjusted once its been lowered. e.g brake bias etc.
I would prefer to get a full kit if im replacing the springs anyway

If it's for daily use then there's no point in spending mega money on a decent spring/kit set-up. If you go down more than 40mm, it's recommended but not essential to uprate/upgrade the standard shocks/dampers.

There are loads of different spring manufacturers out there. I've had some 40mm Apex springs before and they were fine. I now have a 60mm Spax kit and that too is fine. You can get PI, Bilstein, Gmax (ewww). Like with anything, you pay for what you get.

Who's doing the lowering?

I'm not too sure where to take it yet, but i have done 45k on the current shocks so i think ill just do both spring and shocks. People seem to go on about realignment and camber and stuff so im not entirly so what is involved. Other than the removal of the torsion bars. I prob wont get the money together till the summer tho
just when i get it done, i dont want to be feelin every bump and crack in the road, so i dont mind spendin money on decent kit

Well the only difference between springs and a kit is the price.

40mm springs are around £50 and a 40mm kit is around £150 (Spax).

But if you were going to replace the standard shocks/dampers, they could bring the price for the springs up a lot more so it might be more efficient in looking at getting a kit.

Why not have a look at the Spax kits? The VSX one should be fine because as far as I'm aware... they are still including the adjustable shocks/dampers from their better kit (PSX) for free.

There's a place near me that could lower your car for around the £120 mark. I think you could look at buying a kit and having your car lowered for under £300.

Sounds like a plan then, il prob get the Spax kit then. How long on average do the torsion bars take to do? obviously depends how badly there seized. Does the place that you got your car done, give you an engineers report? as some insurance companies require it

It'll take around 3.5/4 hours to lower the whole car. It may take longer (as you said) if the torsion bar is siezed. The place near me has lowered all of my previous Saxo's as well as a load of members from here so they know what they're doing. The company is actually a Peugeot specialists so they also do servicing, etc... I'm sure they could give you an engineers report but it's best to speak to them about that before you decide to go down there just incase that is what you need. I never needed one for my insurance company.

They might/should give you access to a courtesey car. There is a little village nearby with the main essentials. If you call them, ask to speak to Graeme and tell him that Damian with the black Saxo sent you

My saxo is on 102k on standard shocks and has been lowered on lowering springs since 50k and there is no probs as yet.

saunders mate...... dont worry about the engineers report..... if you want it done for a respectable price (cheap) i had mine done at the weekend from a mate at college who has a lock-up in deal. he did the torsion bar for 40 quid and even though it was seized it only took him an hour..... if you fancy it mate let me know...
