HELP!
right, i'm 17, done pass plus, insured with directline on a 1.1i SX MK1. Just rung them up about alloys and they said they won't insure ANY mod's cos i'm under 25. what can i do? whats the risk of driving without declaring? surely if something happens i can just get the car home, and put it back to standard? i'm only gonna be doing alloys possibly tints and a ICE set-up.
any help will be gratefully recieved!

Yea change your policy over if your dead set on putting alloys on, although you'll loose your initial deposit.

u can put on factory fitted extras, so if the factory offered the option of leather seats (just an example) then u can get that pair of leather seats and fit them to your car, your insurance should be ok with thing like that, have you asked if you can fit a set of citroen alloys, e.g the vtr or vts wheels

oh yeah mate sos, the vtr and vts wheels are only 4 stud so you wont be able to fit them, well i think your insurance company could say were not covering you now if you tell them it has aftermarket wheels, but you could give it a go mate, afraid the best advice to give ya is to change the policy if you want alloys, as i said quinn should be good with them,

i was in the same boat mate, and milesgs right. I was gonna go with directline coz me mum was with them so got 10% off plus 10% online discount. but they dont allow ANY mods. im now goin with Quinn Direct mate their spot on.
they allow all mods really but arent too happy about performance mods. and basic things like alloys ect it doesnt even bump up your premium
although ive heard their customer service is shit

i've never heard of a MK1 sx with 4 stud!even so... i can't put aftermarket on and say they came as standard... i'm thinkin... put them on, don't tell insurance, if anything happens, swap em back to normal, or are there ways of telling? it will be in the garage overnight so no chance of nicked really... what does everyone think of this?

That's a great idea other than the fact that it's illegal; your insurance will be void for not declaring the alloys. Therefore you risk being prosecuted for a number of offences.
Also, if you write the car off, how do you expect to swap the wheels back over?

Dont listen to him.
Bigger wheels = slower speed.
