Default Saxo LED Button & Cigarette lighter LED guide (56K NO NO)

i got some of the buttons done today and here is the guide, i started a new thread as the other one is 8 pages long now, u need a 5mm led and resistor, enjoy

remove the button from the car

use a flat head screwdriver to hold the clips back while u seperate the button

remove the green plastic peice which houses the bulb

next take a LED and use a hacksaw to cut the end peice of plastic off, this helps to diffuse the light and stop it being concentrated and patchy

now solder the resistor onto the positive leg of the LED

cut the end off the green housing (be carefull its very brittle so hard to cut without it splindering off) then put the led through the housing as the orrigional bulb was

fit back onto the switch uni and then slide the button back together and your done

and here is the finished result, i will get some night time pics later tonight

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

MINI UPDATE - CIGARETTE LIGHTER

here are a few pics of the cigarette lighter so far, the standard one is green plastic so u cant use it as if u try to shine a coloured LED in place of the bulb it just makes it all go an odd colour. To over come this i got a clear cigarette unit out of a mercedes benz and fitted that in its place with a coloured LED

Here is the mercedes benz clear one - PART NUMBER A 210 820 00 53

Here is the cig lighter before:

and here is its after:

Another awesome guide steve.

If you wanted to change the colour of the front of the button how do you think you would go about it? Iv got a silver console to fit some time and i would rather have the buttons silver too. Would like to hear your opinion on it + you have had the unit to bits so might have a better insight.

I was thinking to drill out the opaque part of it, spray the button silver & then get some opaque silver vynal & print the icon for what the button does onto it in the correct place and size. Then cover the whole front of the button in it so that everything looks about the right colour & hope not too much light will pass through the vynal. If too much does come through i could maybe fill the hole with a little clear silicone or something before i put the vynal over it.

Opinion?

i took the front of the button off when i was looking at the button and from what i can see u are able to pop the transparnet icon bit out as its fixed in from behind the button, i didnt take any pics of that bit unfortunatly but then u can spray the button and put the transparent bit back in

put a blob of tip-ex on the tip of the led to stop bright spots.

Its quicker and easier than trying to hack saw the tip off of the led
