Default decat

does anyone know if a decat pipe will fit onto a standard exhaust or if it will only go onto aftermarket also does it need to be welded on? cos i wanna be able to swap it over for MOT? is it easy to put on and take off?

Don't de-cat your standard exhaust. You're best purchasing a new system, with a decat pipe, and when MOT time comes, get the old exhaust system back on. It's not a big job that way.

toad dunno what youre on like, glue? swapping a whole system takes way longer than a de-cat pipe.... it is only 2 bolts to the manifold and an exhaust clamp to the centre section undo them then hit it with a rubber mallet a couple of times and put the cat back on exactly the same way but in reverse.

LOL. I meant in reference to putting a de-cat on the standard exhaust. I wasn't trying to compare the difference between swapping the de-cat pipe out Vs putting in another system. At the end of the day, it's a bit pointless removing the cat from the standard system. There's a lot of restriction there, best get a decent system IMO.

Well, yes, as most of the systems are 'cat back' systems. The cat bypass pipe is an addition if you know what i mean.

If you like... But if you are looking for out and out performance, you'll need the cat removed, and a proper cat bypass pipe. The standard downpipe that has the cat on it, is shocking. Then again, are you running a VTR? It's probably not worth thinking so much in terms of power in that case, I would just go with the cat back system. I will sound nice and look good, but don't expect any real gains in power.

he'll still see an increase in performance as the fuems will exit quicker, and a decat pipe will make it alot more responsive!

Sort of, but there's other factors to consider. Tuning cars is never straight forward, you can't just somtimes make one mod, and expect to see great things. The exhaust works well if there's potential to NEED to get the exhaust gases out quicker. I.e., you will need to think about getting more air in also. So there's induction to consider, and also the exhaust manifold, which is almost like a cork between the two. I didn't say that he wouldn't gain power, I said not to expect much.
