I recently had a thought about turbo setups my question is can a turbo be supplied fresh oil from a external unit instead of using the cars oil which is quite hot and also dodge drilling holes in ya sump for the return?

i would have thought so but would be a bit complicated, it would need its own resevoir, oil feed lines, own pump(?) and probably a thermostaticly controlled oil cooler.

not sure though

it is indeed possible.

I can't for the life of me remember who does it, but there is a company doing just such a kit for the g40 polo supercharger, and comprises of: pipes, resovire, header tank, electric pump and......i think that's about it?

The best thing about this kind of thing is that it'll run cooler, won't pick up any crud from the engine(reducing any chance of a blocked line), and enables you to run much thiner oil.

However, concidering the tempratures envolved in a turbo compared to a charger, there may be isues with the heat thus requiring it's own cooler, but cretanly an idea I'll look into for you, maby I can come up with a kit/ kit list you can try out??

I'll get back to you at some point over the next few days.

Pete

Found it!www.pitstopdevelopments.co.uk

It's £240 and with a small amount of adaption may well be just the ticket.

I'd go with Scott on the oil cooler addition, but don't know if you'd need a stat valve in it?

To be honest I'd be enclined to have a chat with the chaps a pitstop developments to see what the specs are for the oil pump etc to see if this kit fits your presure/flow requirements and if so just get this one.

that's a nice little turbo convversion on that punto apart from one thing. You've got very hot air coming out of the turbo cause no intercooler and then you are running the metal boost pipe over a very large heat source heating the air up even more. Would have been better tor un the pipes around the side of the engine than over it.
