Exhaust - Engine Management light
I drive a 51 plate VTS.
Am going to buy a straight through exhaust.
Many ppl say i need to buy a sleeve for the sensor to get the engine management light to NOT come on.
Just wondering, how does this work, and where do i put the sleeve once i have whacked the sensor in it?
GMC i been told sell these, but they only seem to sell Manifold sleeves.
Could someone explain.
sorry.

Doesn't the top senser (one in the cat) go in the sleeve then the other sensor plugs in to the available bit on the new exhaust?

if you know a good exhaust place or garage you can also just get a hole drilled and nut welded on, then the lambda sensor can screw in.

The lamda sensor sits after the cat in your exhaust system. Its only job is to take readings of the exhaust gasses and report back to the ECU. If the gasses fall outside of the threshold, the lamda tells the ECU that the cat is not functioning properly - Hence, the engine check light becomes illuminated.
By putting a sleave over the lamda sensor, it cannot pick up any readings from the exhaust gasses, and for whatever reason, this doesn't alert back to the ECU. SO basically, the lamda is only programmed by the ECU to pick up on excess gasses, such as too much CO2. If it can't read anything, it seems happy with that.

Manifold sensor? You mean the 1st lamda in the manifold? You don't need to touch that.
If you are buying an aftermarket exhaust system and don't want to have a special hole drilled in it, you should definately do what I've done. Basically, I bought a sleeve for the lamda, screwed it on (as it has a thread on the inside) and tucked it up with wire in a small area under the car.
The reason why you have to cover the lamda sensor, is because it gets extremely hot while the car is running. It has to get hot to take the readings. If you tuck it away somehere and don't cover it, it's possible that you could set you car on fire!

You can get the a cover from: www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk Just give them a call. Use your imagination for the tie...
Your car has 2 lamda sensors, they are both the same physically. One just after the cat, and the other in the exhaust manifold. They do 2 seperate jobs...

Don't worry... When the lamda is not screwed into the exhaust, you have quite a few inches of play in the cable anyway. Just get some cable ties, and tie it up. You will see somewhere when you are under the car. It's not difficult, promise.
