Gearbox troubles.

Alryt chaps. I currently run a 99 vtr and have had it for nearly a year now, but i now have a problem? When the car is out of gear and the engine is iderling the gearbox chatters like mad but disappears when the clutch is pressed down. The gearbox also wines in 3rd gear. Im thinking that its likely to be a bearing on the input shaft but wondered if you lot had ne ideas? oh and does any body no how much a new one would be and the best place to get it? If not then i'll try and part x it for a vts ha ha! Cheers

well i don't think it's going to be cheap . . . so you'r best bet is a quality assured second hand jobbie

with reguard to the chattering that dissapears when the clutch is depressed it could simply be the clutch release bearing. As for the 3rd gear whine, it is possible for it to be a shaft bearing.

I've never looked into it, but why don't you ask citroen if they do the gearbox internals seperate? If so you can get a set of seals, new bearings and a set of syncro rings and do your own re-build for much less than a new box.

i have the exact same chattering noise, I think. When you dip the clutch it goes and everything sounds sweet

I asked my mate who knows his stuff and he said it was the "thrust bearing"

Above, it say "Clutch release bearing" is this the same?
Has any1 ever changed 1 and is it a fuck on?

its not to hard. just gotta take out the gearbox and its inside the bell on the gearbox. move the clutch arm on the gearbox to the neutral position amd slide on the new bearing and put the gearbox back on. make sure you dont move the clutch arm or this will make the cluth release bearing pop off and you will have to do it all again.
